Create a bold background in under 10 minutes
And add an instant fall vibe to your Daily Pages
Behind the Page
Ever wonder what to do with all those little bits of scrap paper left over? I love making little strip pages just like this one to use up all my pretty scraps — the ones that I just can’t seem to throw away, no matter how small they get lol.
Also — whenever I’m making a repeating stamped background, or a gel print, or anything on an 8.5x11” sheet of paper, I can cut it in half to give me two sheets that are both 8.5x5.5” — which fits perfectly height-wise in the Field Notes notebooks I use for Daily Pages. But since the notebook is only about 7” across, I’m always left with the end strips, which are usually too pretty to throw away.
Technique of the Day
So whenever I feel like making these pages — I’ll pull a theme or a color palette. Today was all about autumn colors. Perfect for today’s new Lens Magazine theme — Fall Fun.

Tips & Creative Wisdom
Talk to Yourself Like You Would a Friend
If a friend was struggling with creativity (or legit anything else they really cared about), you’d probably encourage them and tell them to keep going. It’s so important that you extend that same kindness to yourself. Negative self-talk can easily derail your creativity, especially when you feel like your work isn’t “good enough.” Instead of dwelling on the negative, when those thoughts pop up, pause and think, “What would I say to a friend right now?” It can be a massive mindset shift and lets you treat yourself with more compassion.
Tip: Write a short “love letter” to yourself (or find a quote/sentiment that illustrates how you feel — see above) in your Daily Pages—something you’d tell a friend about their creativity. Go back and read it on days when the inner critic gets a little too loud.
